Federal government has distributed thirty two thousand five hundred and seventy Six bags of confiscated bags rice to one hundred and thirty four orphanages in the South west Nigeria.

Sub committee Chairman on the distribution of relief Items to orphanages and internally displaced persons, Customs Controller, Yakubu Salihu who made this known at the Nigeria Customs Service state headquarters in Abeokuta, said the materials distributed were aimed at alleviating suffering of the less privileged citizens.

The sub committee on the distribution of relief Items to orphanages and internally displaced persons according to the chairman was set up by the Controller General of the Nigeria Customs service to identify all camps of internally displaced persons, IDPs ,and orphanages across the country and distribute all the consumables seized from smugglers to the orphanages and IDPs camps.

Other items distributed to the identified Orphanages in the South West are one thousand seven hundred and ninety four kegs of vegetable oil, Forty seven bags of sugar and ninety eight cartons of tomatoes paste.

Also distributed are eleven bags of foreign flour, thirteen cartons of soaps, six cartons of seasonings three hundred and twenty nine bales of clothes with twenty four loosed bags of clothes.

Mr. Salihu explained that the committee was directed to distribute the materials to recognized homes and were delivered with landing certificates.

He explained that three weeks into the distribution exercise ,two persons had been arrested and detained at seme border impersonating the committee members to extort unsuspecting Nigerians.

The sub committee has since moved to the zone b of the Nigeria customs service in Kaduna and other North Western states of the country to continue the distribution of the confiscated food items and other materials.
