The three storey building which was under construction collapsed on Friday around quarter to six in the evening.

The incident occurred at a period when workers at the site were rounding off the day’s work which led some of them to be trapped underneath while others sustained injuries.

While assessing the situation, Commissioner of Police in Oyo state, Mr Shina Olukolu said no life was lost while five people who were injured were being treated at a private hospital within the locality.

Mr Olukolu said security agencies and other safety organisations teamed up and worked assiduously to save the people that were trapped.

Investigations have commenced into the three storey building which collapsed yesterday evening at Sogoye along Bode area of Ibadan.

Chief inspector for Engineering Regulations and Monitoring, Oyo State, Engineer Sam Adeleke said this at the site of the incident.

Engineer Adeleke noted that representatives of NEMA, the landlords in the area and other stakeholders are currently meeting to ascertain the cause of the collapse.

He said that the owner of the building has been identified and he has been cooperating as necessary documentation will be retrieved from him to determine if the building was approved and if not the level and kind of supervision that was being carried out on the site. He further stressed the need to identify the builder and engineer, in addition series of engineering test will be carried out to know the root cause of the collapse and culprit.

Engineer Sam added that conclusion cannot be drawn on the cause of the collapse of the building until investigations have been completed.
