Following the protest in Ilesha, the Osun State House of Assembly has directed the House Committee on Public Petition to meet with management of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, and representatives of affected areas in Ijesha land to fashion way out of the dispute between the two parties.

The Speaker of the House, Dr. Najeem Salaam gave the directive after member representing Ilesha West, Mr. Tajudeen Famuyide raised the issue under Matter of Public Importance.

Mr. Famuyide explained that IBEDC had withdrawn it service from Ijesha land leaving the area in total darkness due to faceoff between its staff and some youths in Ilesha.

Also, Osun State High Court Amendment Bill 2019 has passed through first and second reading on the floor of the state Assembly.

Reading the Policy Trust of the Bill, the Deputy Majority Leader, Mr. Dejo Bello explained that increasing the number of High Court to fifty from twenty would fast track judgement.

Some of the members who spoke on the Bill, including member representing Odo-Otin, Dr. Olaniran and Orolu/Irepodun, Mr. Kamil Oyedele called for immediate passage of the Bill as it would hasten passage of judgement and decongest the prisons.

In his remark, the Speaker, Mr. Najeem Salaam asked the Committee on Judiciary to look into Bill and report back to the House.

It would be recalled that the business office and other outlets of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company IBEDC, in Ilesa, Osun State was vandalized by protesters.

The protesters, mostly youths, who also set borne fire at major junctions in the ancient to town, allegedly broke into the affected offices and set some documents ablaze before the arrival of the police.
