Some workers of the College of Education Ikere-Ekiti, have given the governing council and management of the institution a seven day ultimatum to reinstate some top officials allegedly disengaged.

The workers who staged a peaceful protest within the institution’s premises carried various placards to show their grievances over the alleged disengagement.

The workers under the aegis of the Senior Staff Association of Colleges of Education, SSUCOEN, said only the reinstatement of the affected top officials would guarantee industrial harmony.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the affected workers were disengaged recently by the governing council of the college while implementing some of the recommendations of the visitation panel set up by the state government.

The panel had earlier in its white paper recommended that the positions occupied by the sacked workers which include Senior Deputy Registrar and Senior Deputy Bursar were not known to the law establishing the college.

However, the Southwest Zonal Coordinator of the SSUCOEN, Mr. Ebun Atinuke and the Ikere College Branch Chairman, Mr. Olusona Olarewaju who led the peaceful protest said the affected staff should have been reverted to their old positions rather than outright disengagement from the service.

According to them, the offices in question were initiated by the regulatory body for colleges adding that the concerned staff sat for an examination before they were appointed into the offices.

Meanwhile, the Acting Provost of the College of Education, Ikere Ekiti, Dr. Victor Kehinde has said that the government white paper on the recommendations of the visitation panel scrapped the positions of the affected officers as Senior Deputy Registrar and Senior Deputy Bursar,.

Dr. Kehinde said this made the governing council to implement the decision by relieving them of their appointments.
