Alternative Dispute Resolution, ADR, will help in reducing backlog of cases in the administration of justice system if effectively utilized.
This was the submission of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi at the inauguration of Ibadan Chapter of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, CIARB.
Mr. Fagbemi who is the chairman of the chapter explained that arbitration was one of the mechanisms to resolve disputes amicably and also encourage investors to come to the country.
He said building a solid foundation would allow their dream of a world class arbitration centre to be nurtured to maturity and promised to pursue the acquisition of a building to serve as a training and dispute resolution centre.
In her remarks, the chairman of the Nigeria Branch of the Institute, Mrs. Adedoyin Rhodes-Vivour, said the institute was committed to promoting arbitration and training.
Mrs. Rhodes-Vivour said the institute had trained arbitrators so that parties in disputes would resolve them through well qualified and trusted arbitrators.
Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, CIARB, was established in the United Kingdom in 1915 while the Nigerian Branch was approved by the institute in 1999.
The institute has over 16,000 members located in 133 countries around the world.
It currently has three chapters in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Ibadan.
