Moves by members of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, Oyo State Council to picket the office of Transmission Company of Nigeria,TCN, in Ibadan was today resisted as they were attacked by members of staff of the company.
The TUC leaders arrived at the company located at Ring road area of Ibadan at few minutes before eight o clock in the morning alongside some police officers and men of the Department of State Security, DSS.

The staff of Transmission Company of Nigeria wielded sticks at the union members and poured water on them as well as newsmen, who were there to cover the picketing.
The staff said they would not be part of any move to picket the company.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria, Chairman, Oyo State TUC, Mr. Emmanuel Ogundiran stated that the picketing of the company was a national directive due to unwholesome practices allegedly carried out by the Director General of transmission Company of Nigeria, Mr. Usman Muhammad.

Mr. Ogundiran said epileptic power supply and inhumane treatment of workers were some of the reasons for the action.

Mr. Ogundiran said the union was also calling for the removal of Mr. Muhammed as the Director General of the company.
