Ekiti Government has been advised to relocate every person living in flood prone areas within the state, particularly in places predicted for heavy flooding this season.

The Director General, Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, Mr Clement Nze gave the advice while speaking during a sensitization workshop in Ado Ekiti.

Represented by a Director in the Agency, Umaru Magashi, Mr Nze explained that the proposed relocation was to avoid loss of lives and property in case the prediction came to pass.

Three local governments, Efon, Ado and Irepodun /Ifelodun have been listed by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, Federal Ministry of Water Resources among other councils of the country to witness heavy flooding this season.

In a paper presentation, Professor Owolabi Ajayi of the Obafemo Awolowo University Ile- Ife called for a review of the environmental laws and ensure their strict enforcement to address the issue of flooding.

According to him, human factors had contributed immensely to the disasters associated with flooding in the country hence efforts must be made to coordinate human activities against actions that could cause flooding.
