Pensioners in Oyo State have appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to adopt the report of the 2013 Government/Labour Committee which was set up on ways to increase the state’s Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.

The state Secretary of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Oyo State Branch, Mr. Olusegun Abatan made this known when the retirees in their hundreds paid a solidarity visit on Governor Seyi Makinde at the state Secretariat, Agodi.

Mr. Abatan said the 2013 Government/Labour Committee came up with methods that would take the state out of economic problems.

He noted that the implementation of the report of the committee was frustrated by some forces in the last administration.

Mr. Abatan said the solidarity rally to Governor Makinde was to appreciate the governor for paying in full monthly pensions of retired primary school teachers.

The Oyo State NUP scribe pointed out that the last administration in the state had been paying pensions of retired primary school teachers in percentage without genuine cause.

Mr. Abatan said there was the need to declare a state of emergency in pension matters as pensioners in Oyo State are being owed over one hundred billion naira.

Responding, Governor Makinde explained that the state government would continue to give priority to welfare of pensioners.

He equally called on pensioners to advise the state government on ways to move the state to greater heights, adding that the vast of experience of pensioners was needed in the day to day activities of Oyo State Government.
