The Federal government has been urged to abrogate the law barring educated ex-convicts from securing government employment so as to break the vicious circle of crime in the Nigerian society.

The Controller of Prisons, Nigerian Prisons Service, Oyo State Command, Mr. Tosin Akinrujomu, made the call while receiving the delegation of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Oyo state Chapter, led by Olaolu Fawole in his office.

Mr. Akinrujomu explained that the ex-convicts had served their jail terms and had been reformed and reintegrated into the society hence the need to remove the stigma so as not to give them any option of returning to crime.

While noting that inmates get academic training up to secondary schools certificate and plans were ongoing to enroll them into the National Open University of Nigeria, the Controller of Prisons emphasized that ex-convicts who are professionals, including professors would die with their knowledge when not given a second chance.

In a remark, Chairman, SWAN, Oyo state, Olaolu Fawole, who commended the prison officials for their commitment at reforming the inmates, urged them to engage them in sporting activities to develop talents.

Fawole also solicited the support of the Nigerian Prisons Service in the development of sports in the country.
