As part of efforts to promote peace in Ekiti State, government says anyone caught engaging in land grabbing and illegal acquisition of properties will be sentenced to four years imprisonment or with an option of five hundred thousand naira fine.

The Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi made this known at the Palace of Ewi of Ado-Ekiti during a campaign on ‘Ekiti State Property Protection and Anti Land Grabbing Law 2019 recently assented to by Governor Kayode Fayemi.

Otunba Egbeyemi, who said the step would curb activities of land grabbers, used the enlightenment forum to educate Traditional Chieftaincy Holders and Family Heads that the essence of the law was to prevent problems related to land issues in the state.

Also, the Director,  Legal Drafting of the Ekiti State Ministry of Justice, Mr. Akaninyeme Akpan submitted that entering of Land by Violence, using of weapons and charm to chase away people from their lands would attract imprisonment or fine.

The Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe commended the State government for taking measures to halt activities of land grabbers in the State.
