The Oyo State House of Assembly has directed ministries, agencies and parastatals to appear before it for budget defence.

 Speaker of the House, Mr. Adebo Ogundoyi, who gave the directive during the plenary, also inaugurated six committees to carry out the defense on the budget proposal of one hundred and seventy-one billion naira presented by the Executive.

 Mr. Ogundoyin, while speaking on the Oyo State Appropriation (Review) Bill, 2019, said that the focus of the budget by the state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, is to cut down 40% across board of the previous budget by the Ajimobi’s administration to meet up the objectives of the present government.

 Deputy Speaker, Mr. Abiodun Fadeyi expressed the need for quick actions on the bill, saying when passed into law, it will enable the government to meet up with the expectations of the people.

The Majority Leader, Mr. Sanjo Adedoyin and Minority Leader, Mr. Asimiyu Alarape also appealed to the committee in charge of the budget to work with relevant bodies and seek advice where necessary to assist in speedy passage of the budget review.

The bill was later referred to the House Committee on Public Account, Finance and Appropriation for further consideration after it passed through the second reading.

The breakdown of the budget proposal as presented by the executive is about Ninety four billion naira for the recurrent expenditure and more than Seventy six point seven billion naira for the capital expenditure.

The budget defense which began yesterday is expected to last three days, and ends on Saturday this week.
