Oyo State Government says it has commenced plans to forestall the possibility of flood in Ibadan or any part of the state based on an updated report on imminent flooding in Ibadan released by the Nigeria Hydrological Service Agency (NIHSA)

The state Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr Kehinde Ayoola stated this at a press conference in Ibadan.

The commissioner explained that the present government would soon commence channelization of major rivers and water channels to boost flood water runoff drainage capacity in the state as well as other proactive measures.

He said the state government remained committed to the full implementation of the Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project.

Mr Ayoola therefore urged residents of the state to cultivate the habit of clearing street drainages, avoid dumping of waste improperly, avoid flood prone areas during downpour and avoid staying under high tension electricity installations
