The Ekiti State Governor, Dr kayode Fayemi, has officially handed over Christ’s School Ado Ekiti to the Anglican Communion, its original owners, with a charge not to disappoint the government and people of Ekiti State.

The governor at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, between the parties in Ado Ekiti, said his government was committed to improving the standard of education in the state.

He affirmed that missionaries had played vital roles in the development of schools in the country by inculcating in the students spiritual and moral values just like the Christ School established in 1933.

Dr Fayemi urged the new managers to maintain the standards for the benefit of the state and humanity as well as to support the restoring of lost values mantra of his administration.

He hoped that Christ School would serve as a veritable pilot programme that would spur other missionaries to make a move.

The Bishop Anglican Diocese of Ekiti, Christopher Omotunde thanked the governor for the ground breaking move and promised not to disappoint the government and people of the state.

Ekiti State Government had few months ago constituted a committee for the smooth and effective takeover of schools built by missionaries, their original owners, with Christ School the first.

In a related development, private, public primary and secondary schools in Ekiti State have resumed for the 2019/2020 academic session.

Virtually, all the schools visited by Radio Nigeria within Ado Ekiti metropolis offered prayers to usher in the new academic session.

Some of the students were seeing exchanging pleasantries while the weedy environments and dusty classrooms were being taken care of in readiness for academic activities.

Meanwhile, Ekiti State Commissioner for Education, Mr Foluso Daramola has advised authorities of all the public schools in the state not to collect any fee or levy from their students, reiterating that education remained free in the state.

He however appealed to parents and guardians to allow their children and wards to resume, as teaching and learning would commence immediately.
