The 18th meeting of the Joint Planning Board, JPB and National Council on Development Planning, NCDP has commenced in Asaba, the Delta State capital, with over two hundred participants from across the country in attendance.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning, Mr Ernest Umakhihe, in his opening remark to the occasion maintained that states should lay less emphasis on oil based economy for their sustenance and to take concrete steps to diversify their economies.

The Permanent Secretary also spoke of the zero oil agenda by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, which is aimed at helping states to focus on potential revenue sources.

Delta State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Barry Pere-Gbe, noted the theme for this year’s meeting captioned States Fiscal Sustainability and Economic Diversification in Nigeria, was timely and in accordance with the economic policy drive of the state government.

Dr. Pere-Gbe also expressed the hope that lessons from the conference would serve as a guide to sustainable economic growth in the nation.
