Gov/Assembly Poll: Voting Commences in Oyo

Voting has commenced in the Governorship and House of Assembly poll in Ibadan.

In Oluyole Local Government, accreditation and voting started around 9 am after some hitches with card reader.

This woman was the first voter to be accredited at Ward, 2, Unit 17, in Oluyole local government area, located at Customary Court, New Garage, Ibadan. She was accredited at 0902hrs because the card reader in the unit did not work until 0900hrs that it came up.

Also, at Ward 7, Unit 8, Olomi, Oluyole Local Government, accreditation and voting have commenced with 1140 accredited.

The turnout of voters at this unit was encouraging as voters queued orderly waiting for their turn to vote.

However, some political thugs were seen shouting that voters should cast their vote for a particular party.

In Ibadan Northwest Local Government,  Aderemi Omotoso who cast his vote in the area reported that the INEC officials resumed at about 7:25am and voting started by 08:10am in Ward 3, units 9, 10 and 11.

DIG in charge of Southwest on Election matters, Yakubu Jubril, AIG zone Eleven comprises Oyo, Osun and Ondo states, Leye Oyebade and Commissioner of Police in Oyo state, Shina Olukolu addressing Newsmen at Ward 10, Unit 7 Eleyele Ibadan where accreditation and voting are in progress.

There was presence of security men in areas like Oritamerin, Beere, Avenue, Idiarere to guarantee the security and safety of people

Similarly, Voting has commenced in most polling units in the suburb Ogbomoso and its environments.

Electoral officers were on ground which made simultaneous accreditation to start at 8 o’clock.

At Unit 10, 11,12,13 and 14, Ward 4, Ogbomoso- South Local Government,  voters in their large numbers had started casting thier votes.

Similarly, at Oolo Unit 1, and Asani Unit 3, ward 7 in Oriire local government, voting is in progress.

It was the same situation at Unit 2A and B, Ile-Abu, ward 8 in Ogo-Oluwa Local government as the electorate queued peacefully to exercise their franchise.

Security has been very tight along Oyo/Ogbomoso Road and within Ogbomoso town as armed military officers were on ground and ensured thorough search of vehicles on election duties.
