A sports enthusiast and philanthropist, Mr Dotun Sanusi has called for the return of Principal Cup and other grassroots sports competitions at various secondary schools level in Oyo state.

Mr. Sanusi made the call while receiving executives and members of Oyo State chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN in Ilaji, Ona Ara Local Government area of the state.

Mr. Sanusi, who is the founder of Ilaji Football Academy noted that Principal Cup competition would revive sports at the grassroots and pave way for talents discovery.

He recalled his experience at the Principal Cup competition where he played at different school fields including Wesley College, Odinjo playing field and Olubadan Primary School.

Mr. Sanusi said many super stars were discovered and groomed through Principal Cup competition to represent Oyo State and the nation at sporting competitions.

The foremost grassroots sports developer also decried the deplorable state of sport fields and facilities in Oyo State, blaming it on lack of funding by governments.

He advised sports writers to be more committed to bringing back grassroots sports and individuals who would fund it.

In a remark, Chairman, SWAN, Oyo State chapter, who expressed the readiness of the association to bring back the glory of sports, especially at grassroots level, solicited the support of philanthropists and sports lovers to succeed.

Meanwhile, members of Oyo State chapter of SWAN will this Saturday play a novelty match against Ilaji football Academy at seven o clock in the night.
