Oyo State House of Assembly has met with stakeholders at a public hearing on State Joint Local Government Account Distribution Further Amendment Bill 2018.

The bill, spearheaded by the late speaker of the House, Mr Micheal Adeyemo, seek for payment of monthly pension of retired primary school teachers from the statutory allocation of local government being deducted by JAAC.

Deputy Speaker and Chairman Ad-Hoc Committee on the bill, Mr Abdulwasi Musah said the House set to further amend the bill considering the backlog of pension arrears of retired primary school teachers.

Mr Musah said the bill when passed into law would address the problem of non payment of monthly pensions of primary school teachers in the state.

In an address, Speaker Oyo state House of Assembly, Mr Olagunju Ojo said the public hearing was in fulfillment of the constitutional responsibility of the legislature.

At a presentation of memoranda by stakeholders, representatives of the Ministry of Local Government, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Ministry of Justice and other relevant unions described the bill as discriminating and called on the lawmakers to correct the identified grey areas.

Participants also observed a minute silent for the former speaker of the House, Mr Michael Adeyemo.
