Members of the public have been advised to go for vaccination against meningitis to eradicate the menace in Nigeria.
A consultant neurologist at the University College Hospital, UCH, Professor Mayowa Owolabi gave the advice while speaking on World Meningitis Day.
Professor Owolabi who said the common cause of the disease is bacterial infection through blood or the nostrils to the brain, called on patients to present themselves to the clinic immediately for treatment.
He highlighted the symptoms of meningitis to include headache, neck stiffness, confusion and fever.
Professor Owolabi urged government to intensify its effort at eradicating meningitis especially in the northern part of the country.
