The Vice Chancellor, Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, Professor Joshua Ogunwole has advocated the review of the Tertiary Education Trust Funds act to enable it cater for private tertiary institutions.

Professor Ogunwole made stated this in an interview with our correspondent in Ibadan.

He explained that research and academics is competitive, here government needed to create a competitive platform where both public and private universities could bid and compete for research funds.

“It is in this research a country picks a technology for and use for its own good whether it’s developed by a private University or by public University, it is developed in Nigeria, that’s the most important thing.”

“Most of the universities you see abroad which we talked about are privately owned universities, but we are saying that from this Tetfund, at least the aspect for research, for capacity building, and training, let it be a competitive bid so that as the public universities grow, private counterparts will grow, after all, we draw resource from one another”

Professor Ogunwole while speaking on laudable innovation introduced by his administration at the faith-based University has boosted both the hardware and software aspects of teaching and learning at the institution.

He noted that the recently appointed Bowen Brand Ambassadors comprising of three distinguished personalities: Mrs. Omorinsojo Desalu, an Insurance magnate and motivation speaker, Dr. Babatope Agbeyo, a digital entrepreneur and Mr. Sjoerd Duiker, a passionate Christian scholar with great flair for equipping African youths with agripreneurial skills.

According to the VC, the Bowen Brand Ambassadors, an initiative which placed Bowen university as the first tertiary institution to appoint brand ambassadors, had created an express link between the class and office environment as the ambassadors provided real time experience for students through internship and mentoring.

“We are already building a marriage between the industry and our students in the sense that those captains of industry will come to the university like adjunct professors and mentor our people.”
