Two people have died after a shooting on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

According to the institution’s Chief of Police, Jeff Baker, three people remained in critical condition and one other person injured.

Jeff Baker said the suspect was armed with a pistol, and an officer had dashed quickly into the room where the attacker was , disarmed and took him into custody.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department identified the suspect as Trystan Andrew Terrell, 22, adding that charges against him was pending.

The university, which has 30,000 students, tweeted on Tuesday night that students could leave campus once they were cleared from their buildings.
