The National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP says it has rescued over thirteen thousand Nigerians from human traffickers since inception.
The Director General of the Agency, Mrs. Julie Okah-Donli stated this when she led officials of the agency on a visit to Ekiti state Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
Mrs. Okah-Donli who said out of the victims, fifty-three were from Ekiti state, stressed that the agency would work with government in the fight against human trafficking.
She called on government to always demonstrate political will aimed at eradicating the menace in the society which she noted would boost the image of Nigeria to outside world.
Earlier, Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi told the visitors that government had mapped out strategies towards tackling human trafficking and upholding rights of citizens.
Governor Fayemi noted that part of measures to address the menace was the implementation and enforcement of the Child Right Act, as well as compulsory and free education for public school children to increase enrollment on schools.
He said government would partner the agency towards fighting the menace which had posed threat to national development.
