OYHA Moves to Preempt Violence at Idi Arere, Born Foto, Other Areas

Oyo State House of Assembly, OYHA, has called for urgent step to forestall the recurrence of the June 19 violence at Idi Arere, Born Foto and Foko, Isale-Asaka which claimed one life and destroyed many properties in the areas.

This followed a matter of urgent public importance, moved by the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, Mr. Yusuf Adebisi, member representing Ibadan South-West Constituency 1, calling the attention of the assembly to the recurrence violence in the area.

Speaker of the house, Mr. Adebo Ogundoyin called on the police to investigate the remote cause of the violence and deploy patrol vehicles to be permanently stationed in the areas.

Mr. Ogundoyin however set up an 8 member ad-hoc committee for on the spot assessments to the scene and report to the house within two weeks.

The house also approved the request of the executive to appoint twelve special advisers for the running of governance in the state, in compliance section 196 of the constitution.

Similarly, the house appointed members of the parliamentary caucus, headed by Mr. Ayo Fatokun, member representing Akinyele Constituency 1.

…Set up Taskforce to check Truancy among School Children

In a related development, the OYHA has called on the ministry of education and relevant agencies to set up task force on students roaming the street during school hours with a view to curbing the increasing rate of the menace.

The speaker, Mr. Ogundoyin made the call following a motion moved by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Abiodun Fadeyi on the need for government agencies to curb students from roaming the street during school hours.

The speaker said the taskforce should involve the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence, NSCDC, Man “O” War and the SUBEB who would arrest and return any student caught roaming the street to the school authorities for sanction.

Mr. Ogundoyin noted that students in the state have no excuse to be unserious considering the laudable policies put in place by Governor Seyi Makinde on education since the inception of the present administration.

Corroborating, member representing Ibadan North-East constituency 1, Mr. Francis Olamide explained that the House resolved to return such students to their respective schools when caught to avoid abuse of the fundamental human rights of children.

Mr. Olagoke advised the taskforce, when established to operate within the confines of the law.
