It has been suggested that government should encourage those taking up political offices to swear with deities such as Ogun, Obatala and Sango while taking their oath of office as a way of promoting Yoruba culture and tradition.

The Onitetikun of Owode Ota, Oba Wasiu Ogungbayi made this proposal at the first Yoruba Quiz Competition organized for secondary schools in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun state.

The Monarch also emphasized the need for parents to inculcate in their children the Yoruba way of life through the use of local dialect, dresses and food as a way of sustaining Yoruba cultural heritage.

In a remark, the Olota of Ota, Oba Adeyemi Obalanlege encouraged the Yorubas to always embrace their culture and tradition in order to prevent such from falling into extinction.

The Olota stressed the importance of making office holders swear with deities noting that such would make them seat up.

The initiator of the program, Oluwo Dr. Fashola Faniyi Babatunde explained that he organized the quiz competition in response to the challenge amongst some Yorubas who have preference for foreign language and culture.

Dr. Babatunde called on parents to always speak their native language to their children as a way of sustaining their cultural heritage.
