Inadequate number of health personnel in Primary Healthcare Centers in Nigeria has been identified as a major challenge in the efforts to eradicate malaria in the country.
Coordinator of a nongovernmental organisation, Civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Olatunji stated this in Abeokuta while addressing stakeholders on malaria control.
Mrs. Olatunji also advocated training and retraining of personnel as part of efforts to strengthen the fight against malaria in the society.
The malaria control expert advocated the need for government’s intervention through policy and funding to ensure effective control of malaria in view of the large coverage area and increasing population of the country.
She also called for more private-public partnerships in the rehabilitation of health centers, provision of drugs and health facilities.
In the same vein, Ogun State Malaria Programme Officer, Mrs Olamide Adeyinka said the task of eradicating the scourge of malaria in the state required the concerted efforts of all stakeholders.
