The Supreme Court has affirmed the judgment of the appellate court which confirmed Governor Adegboyega Oyetola as the winner of 22nd September 2018 Osun State governorship election.

A majority judgement read by Justice Olabode Rhodes-Vivour held that the absence of Justice Peter Obiora of the election tribunal to sit on the 6th of February 2019 was a fundamental error which made the proceedings of the day worthless and nullity.

It said the failure of Mr Obiora to be present on that day meant that the tribunal lacked the authority to give a judgment on the matter.

The tribunal had declared Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, winner of the election.
