Peace and strategic studies expert, Professor Tajudeen Akanji has advocated reformation of military and other security agencies to address security challenges facing the country.

Professor Akanji, who is the Director, Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies, University of Ibadan stated this in Ibadan while delivering the fourth Surveyor L. L. Ali Annual Lecture organised by Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, Oyo State with the theme “Emerging Security Threats, State Stability and Economic development of South Western Nigeria”.

Professor Akanji said Federal Government needed to overhaul the security agencies and should as well provide them with sophisticated weapons and other logistics that would facilitate effective crime combating.

Professor Akanji identified factors that would enhance peaceful atmosphere to include community policing, addressing unemployment, quality education and good health.

Earlier, chairman, Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, Oyo State, Mr Aderemi Kobiowu said the topic was a form of socio-corporate responsibilities of the organisation to address security challenges facing the country.

In a goodwill message, Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin, who spoke through the Deputy Speaker, Mr Abiodun Fadeyi said the topic was timely and promised to partner the institution to better the society.

The ninety-eight year old Alhaji Lasisi Ali in whose honour the annual lecture was organised in commemoration of his role as a founding fathers of the institution appreciated the gesture.
