Stakeholders have continued to clamor for improved educational standard for the youth in Nigeria to enable them compete favourably with their counterparts in developed countries. 

This was the focus of the grand finale of weeklong activities to mark this year’s International Youth Day, organized in Ibadan by the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Oyo state. 

An educationist and founder Shafuadeen in Islam, Professor Sabit Olagoke challenged government to earmark more funds for the education sector and monitor its usage to guard against saboteurs. 

Also speaking, Deputy Chief Whip, Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr Yusuf Adebisi and the Chairman, House Committee on Youth and Sports, Mr. Fola Oyekunle acknowledged the need to empower the youths through quality education and said the Oyo State Assembly is poised to pass bills and motions that will bring remarkable development to education. 

Earlier, Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor, Chief Bisi Ilaka said though there are challenges to surmount, the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde is deploying more resources to the sector. 

Chairperson, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Oyo State, Mrs Adebobola Agbeja explained that the event was to draw the attention of stakeholders to the plight of youths especially in the education sector. 

This year’s theme for the celebration of International Youth Day is “Transforming Education”.
