Ekiti State Government says it will henceforth prosecute parents who refused to enroll their children in schools.

Governor Kayode Fayemi announced this during the sensitization programme on school enrolment in Eporo, Emure Local Government Area of the state.

The Governor stressed that since the state’s Child’s Right law provided that all children must be given access to education, parents must enroll their children and wards in schools. 

Dr. Fayemi who called on all parents and guardians to key into the free education programme of the government, said education was not only free but compulsory in Ekiti State. 

The governor directed the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, to commence necessary enrolment to ensure that all children of school age register for the 2019/2020 academic session. 

Earlier, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, Professor Francisca Aladejana urged parents to patronise public schools, promising that government would always provide a conducive environment for proper teaching and learning. 

Also, the South West Zonal Coordinator of Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Mrs. Roseline Madubi called on religious and political leaders to sensitive the people on importance of school enrolment.
