Oyo State Director, National Orientation Agency, NOA, Mrs Dolapo Dosunmu has appealed to Nigerians to remain law abiding citizens, and allow the Federal Government to handle the reported cases of killings of Nigerians in South Africa.

She made the appeal in Ibadan while reacting to reprisal attacks by some Nigerians on South African businesses and organizations located in Lagos and Ibadan.

Mrs Dosunmu, who described the attack on foreigners in South Africa as barbaric and uncalled for, said reprisal attacks in Nigeria would only give opportunity for looters and criminals to perpetrate their evil act.

Mrs Dosunmu explained that the Nigerian government and some African leaders are taking steps and having consultations with the South African government to ensure peace, and the safety of Nigerians on South African soil.

While accepting the fact that citizens have the right to peaceful protest, the NOA state director appealed that such protest should be violence-free, and grievance should be channeled to relevant authorities through petitions to register their demands.

Xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other foreigners by some South African citizens began on Sunday, a development which had attracted strong condemnation among Nigerians both home and abroad.
