All is set for the 467th inaugural lecture of the University of Ibadan to be delivered today by Professor Olugbenga Ehinola of Geology Department .
Professor Ehinola who is the head of Geology Department of the institution will be speaking on the topic “On the search of unconventional hydrocarbons resources of Nigeria Basins”

The inaugural lecture which will begin at 5pm at the Lakeside Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Science, University of Ibadan will be chaired by the Vice- Chancellor of the institution, Professor Idowu Olayinka.

54-year-old Professor Ehinola joined the service of University of Ibadan in 1995 as Assistant Lecturer and rose through the ranks to become professor.

He held his Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology in 1990 from University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Masters in Petroleum Geology/Sedimentology from University of Ibadan in 1995 while he had his PhD from the same university in 2002 in Petroleum/ Environment Geology.

Professor Ehinola had his post doctors in Thermodynamics of minerals, IPE Chinese Academic of Sciences, Beijing, China.

He has received series of awards among which are University of Ibadan MacArthur Research Grant Winner (2009),  Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Research Grant Winner (2008)
NMGS / TOTAL FINA ELF Best Paper Award  (2004)  International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS) 2004, Travel Grant Award and Berkner Fellowship grant by the American Geophysical Union  (2003).
Professor Ehinola belongs to scores of professional societies including Fellow, Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists, FNAPE.
Fellow, Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society, FNMG Member, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Member, Society of Organic Petrologists, and member of Afro-Asian Association of petroleum Geochemists.

He has also been consultant researcher and facilitator to a number of local and international organisations.

Professor Ehinola has contributed to University of Ibadan in different administrative capacities like lecturer in charge of Computers, Museum and Library Matters, Assistant Post-Graduate Coordinator (2005 to 2012),  Field work committee member,  Acting Sub-Dean Biological/Earth Sciences (2005/2006 and 2007/2008),  Peer Reviewer, Journal of Mining and Geology (2001 till date), Editorial Board Member of Nigeria Association of Petroleum Explorationists, Staff Administrator for ChevronTexaco Subsurface Resource Center, Assistant Warden, Kuti Hall, 2008-2010, and Warden, Kuti Hall, 2011-2012.
