Deputy Director News, Ibadan National Station, Elder Adenrele Ajisefini gave advice at a workshop organized for staff and freelancers of Gold FM Ilesa on retooling for effective translation. 

Elder Ajisefini explained that the workshop was in with the trends in the broadcast industry with a view to ensuring proper pronunciation and appropriate application of Yoruba grammar for effective news and programme delivery. 

He described translator corps as a lucrative unit, which could make or mar the image of any station, urging participants to always be current and abreast of events as well as seek more knowledge about English and Yoruba languages.

According to him, results of the pilot workshop organized on July 23, this year prompted the directive of the Zonal Director, Alhaji Mohammed Bello for its replication in all FM stations to enable FRCN retain its position as the flagship of Radio broadcast in Africa  . 

Speaking on the challenges confronting translators, a resource person,  Mr Moses Morenikeji highlighted lack of in-depth knowledge of the language to be translated as a major problem , saying a good translator must always use contextual translation rather than visual for better comprehension. 

In a welcome address, the Manager, Gold FM , alhaji Imam Abolade described the workshop as timely, advising the participants to avail themselves the opportunity to improve their presentation.

Two participants, Mr Sunday Farimade and Olabode Ibrahim lauded the management for periodical training and retraining of staff, which made them standout among their colleagues in other media organizations.
