Over four hundred residents of Oyo town and its environs have received free eye screening and cataract surgeries in Oyo.

The event which was part of the activities marking 2019 World Sight Day is collaborative initiative of Oyo State chapter of Ophthalmology Society of Nigeria, and the Nigeria Optometrists Association.

In an interview, the supervisor of the medical outreach, who is also an ophthalmologist at the State Hospital Oyo, Dr. Chinazo Ubah said the cataract is one of the sight problem hidden symptoms needing constant check.

Dr. Ubah said the free screening and surgery exercise was part of the corporate social responsibility of the collaborating agencies to restore hope to patients on the urge of losing their sight.

Some beneficiaries of the exercise commended the partner associations and appealed for the regular repeat of the exercise.

Other partner associations in Oyo State included Nigerian Association of Optithamic Nurses, the Lions Clubs International, District 404 b1.

The exercise has the theme “Vision First”
