President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the murder of 19 people by yet to be identified gunmen in Tawari community of Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The community came under heavy attack on Thursday, as 28 houses and vehicles were also burnt down, according to the state police command.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

President Buhari said in a statement that there was no justification for killing and for whatever motive.

He warned that revenge killings would aggravate the cycle of violence, creating neither safety nor security for any side.

The President cautioned against self-justice as “doing so could make a bad situation worse and undermine government’s efforts in tackling security challenges.”

President Buhari said he is ‘gravely’ worried about the frequency of using violence to settle disputes rather than following lawful and amicable means to avoid needless destruction of lives and property,
