As schools resumed today for the second term academic session, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Education, Mr Foluso Daramola has advised teachers in public schools to make diligence and punctuality their watchword in this New Year.

Mr Daramola, who gave the advice while addressing newsmen in Ado Ekiti, said government would soon embark on monitoring and supervision of schools to ensure effective teaching and learning.

The commissioner appealed to parents and guardians to provide basic materials like, text books, school uniforms, shoes, biro, pencils, calculators for their children to complement the free and compulsory education policy of the present administration.

He, however, warned head teachers and principals in public schools that the Executive Order abolishing collection of school fees, levies and taxes was still in place and they must adhere strictly to it.

Mr Daramola therefore congratulated teachers, students and pupils on their resumption for the 2019/2020 second term, wishing them a successful academic calendar.

Meanwhile, prayers were offered today in public, private primary and secondary schools in Ekiti State to usher in the second term academic calendar.

In most of the schools visited within Ado Ekiti metropolis, the students were seen busy tidying up the school environments, including dusty classrooms.

Some of the teachers were seen congratulating one another for witnessing the year 2020 while students were also exchanging pleasantries.
