Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde says sacrifices made by the Armed Forces is significant towards the unity and oneness of the country.

The governor made the remarks after the wreath-laying ceremony and grand finale of the 2020 Armed Forces Remembrance Day activities, held at Remembrance Arcade, Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.

He stressed that the contributions of the fallen heroes to their fathers’ land required appreciation and enjoined people to take care of the dependants of these heroes and those that have been disabled in course of carrying out their service to the nation.

In an interview, state chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Deacon Michael Fajimi called for assistance of both state and federal governments for the dependants of the fallen heroes.

Deacon Fajimi said that such assistance would go a long way in caring for them and make the gallant efforts of the fallen heroes not to be in vein

Highlight of the occasion was lay of wreaths by Gov Makinde, General Officer Commanding of 2 Division Nigeria Army – Major General AB Omozoje, Commander 2Division Garrison, Nigeria Army – Brigadier General OO Soyele, Commander, 671 NAF Detachment Ibadan- Commodore AA Adedoyin, among others.

Firing of rounds volley to symbolize burial party for the fallen heroes was also observed.

Similarly in Akure, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has promised to pursue operation Amotekun to a logical conclusion.

He made the promise during the 2020 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration in Akure, Ondo State capital.

Governor Akeredolu after laying the wreath at the cenotaph pointed out that operation Amotekun was to complement the efforts of the armed forces and police to protect the lives and property of the citizenry.

He also explained that the conventional security outfits would perform better when supported by the neighborhood surveillance.

Promising thorough monitoring of the operation in line with the mandate, the governor also acknowledged efforts of the Nigerian military especially through its operation crocodile smile.

Those who also spoke with Radio Nigeria on Amotekun including retired military personnel described the operation as long overdue.

The retired security officers noted that the people would be more familiar with the terrain and there would be no language barrier.

At the cenotaph were security chiefs, political leaders and traditional rulers who all laid wreaths in honor of the nation’s fallen heroes.
