Speakers of the Southwest states Houses of Assembly under the umbrella of conference of speakers of Southwest states legislatures have thrown their weight behind the establishment of the recently inaugurated Western Nigerian Security Network, code named Amotekun. 

The speakers at a legislative security summit holding in Ibadan is mapping out strategies of giving legislative support to the security outfit which they said was to complement the operations of security agencies in the country. 

Addressing the gathering, Chairman Southwest conference speakers and speaker of the Ondo state House of Assembly, Mr Bamidele Oleyeloogun said the current security situation in the region can no longer be addressed with levity. 

Mr Oleyeloogun who noted that operation Amotekun has received the blessings of royal fathers in the region said the regional security outfit has come to stay. 

Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mr Mudashiru Obasa explained that the legislative arm of govern,ent in each states would come up with laws to give backing to operation Amotekun.

In an interview after briefing the conference of speakers, Director General, Development Agenda for Western Nigeria, DAWN commission, Mr Oluseye Oyeleye expressed confidence that the southwest states assemblies will do the needful by coming up with necessary legislative backing.

Earlier, in a welcome address, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin said the legislative conference with the theme ” the imperative of Western Nigeria Security Network: Legislative support for the initiative” is coming at the right time. 

The southwest legislative security summit which is also mapping out ways to ensure the implementation of financial autonomy for state houses of assembly and improving regional economic integration agenda, had in attendance all the six southwest states speakers, their majority leaders, and special adviser to governor Seyi Makinde on security, Mr Fatai Owoseni.
