Ogun State Ministry of Health says no Lassa fever patient in the state has died and assured that all is being done to contain its spread.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, in a statement made available in Abeokuta said a case of Lassa fever had been confirmed through the State Virology Laboratory.
According to her, the patient was referred to the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Abeokuta.
Dr. Coker stated that the patient was transferred to the Federal Specialist Hospital in Irua, Edo State, where the facilities provide the patient with the full benefit of multidisciplinary care required for her, due to the pregnancy.
She explained that the Rapid Response Team of the State Ministry of Health had commenced a line listing of all that had come in contact with the patient for surveillance purposes, including relatives and hospital staff that managed the case.
Dr. Coker assured members of the public that the state government acted proactively by putting all counter-measures in place to contain the situation and urged residents to maintain proper hygiene
It would be recalled that earlier a 26-year-old woman, Mrs. Titilayo Akinsola, was said to have died as a result of Lassa fever in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The victim was claimed to have died yesterday at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, where she had been receiving treatment in the last four days.
Public Relations Officer, FMC, Abeokuta, Mr. Segun Orisajo, who confirmed the death, had disclosed that a series of tests conducted revealed that the victim had Lassa fever.
