Ekiti State Government says it has no interest in imposing anyone as King on towns and villages across the state.

The Deputy Governor Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi stated this in Ado-Ekiti while mediating in a dispute among chiefs, kingmakers, regent and prince families of Ilomu Ekiti.

Otunba Egbeyemi, who maintained that the present administration believed in fairness and rule of law on issues regarding Traditional matters, warned that Government would not tolerate any act that could mar its image on Kingship or Traditional matters.

Otunba Egbeyemi said Governor Kayode Fayemi’s administration would continue to protect the culture, norms, values, and traditions of the people of Ekiti and urged the Kingmakers to desist from issues that could breed disaffections on Obaship matters in the state.

The Ekiti State Deputy Governor emphasized the need for everyone to respect the dictates of their cultural practices, saying that the government was not interested in issues that would later promote violence or go against the Chieftaincy laws.

In a related development, Ekiti State Council of Elders wants traditional rulers, community leaders and government at all levels to monitor the activities and land usage by non-indigenes across the Southwest.

This is to prevent incessant cases of kidnapping, banditry, Herdsmen attacks, land grabbing and loss of lives across the towns and villages in the region.

These were parts of the recommendations of an eight-man committee set up by the Chairman Ekiti State Council of Elders Professor Olatunde Oluwasanmi and presented before Yoruba leaders and Ekiti State Deputy Governor Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi in Ado-Ekiti.

The Committee headed by Chief Abiodun Ajayi and its Secretary, Mr. Tunde Omojola maintained that communities across the states in the Southwest needed to re-establish its long-standing cultural practices in the land management in order to protect the lives and prosperity in their domains.

To achieve these, the Committee explained that various towns should adopt the map of their state so as to be able to monitor the use of land by non-indigenes.

The recommendations also enjoined the state governments to work out modalities that would make land tenure system to be in accordance with the long-standing cultural practices of the indigenous communities with a call to flush out terrorists from their hideouts, especially in government forest reserves.

In a remark, the Leader of Yoruba, Professor Banji Akintoye advocated the need to pursue the current security network codename ‘Amotekun’ to a logical conclusion in the interest of lives and prosperity.

Professor Akintoye, who observed that security of lives and prosperity could not be negotiated for anything, craved the support of all and sundry to the realization of the set aims And objectives.

The Ekiti State Deputy Governor Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi promised that the administration of Governor Kayode Fayemi would continue to make use of meaningful advice and suggestions by the Elders.

Otunba Egbeyemi commended the genuine interest of Elders at making the Southwest a peaceful region and re-emphasised government support.
