Nigeria Police, Ogun State Command says it has arrested a thirty-year-old housewife, Shukurat Olufowobi for allegedly beaten her five-year-old stepson, Azeem Olufowobi to death.

The suspect, who is a resident of Oshodi-Oke area of Ogijo was arrested yesterday following information received by the police from members of the public that the suspect had used an object to hit the boy on his head, which resulted to the death of the victim.

The spokesman of the command, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident to journalists through a statement in Abeokuta, said the suspect in the company of her husband hurriedly took the corpse of the victim to Ajah in Lagos State where he was secretly buried.

Mr Oyeyemi explained that the timely intervention of the DPO Ogijo Division Mr. Suleman Muhammed led to the arrest of the couple, who had started packing their belongings away from the area.

He noted that the preliminary investigation showed that the woman had been maltreating the victim whose mother had separated from the father due to what he described as un-reconcilable differences.

Mr Oyeyemi said the suspect had pleaded with the nurse who administered the first aid treatment on the victim to lie about the cause of the death of the boy but the Nurse refused, claiming that such a decision contradicted the ethics of her profession.

He said the couple was currently undergoing interrogation at Ogijo Divisional Police headquarters and they were helping the police in their investigation.
