Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Mrs Bisi Fayemi has urged students to always report any cases of sexual harassment to the appropriate authorities for immediate action.
She made the call during a one-day workshop, themed: ‘Gender Based Violence and Sexual Harassment in Tertiary Institutions’ held at the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti.
Mrs. Fayemi noted that many students were facing a lot of sexual harassment but the fear of stigmatization and the unknown made them suffer in silence.
The Ekiti First Lady used the forum to appeal to male lecturers to always try to control their sexual urge and emotion.
Earlier the Vice Chancellor, Ekiti State University, Prof. Edward Olanipekun, said that the institution had zero tolerance to sexual harassment, exploitation and any abuse of students.
Prof. Olanipekun said that the workshop was highly essential in the quest for a sustainable end to gender based violence and sexual harassment in tertiary institutions.
