Oyo State Government says it will appoint motor park managers throughout the 33 local government areas of the state to collect revenue and remit it into the state account through a consultant.

This was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Public Works, Infrastructure and Transportation, Professor Raphael Afonja, while briefing newsmen on the government’s plan to general IGR from the transportation sector.

Professor Afonja said that the development was a radical change from the NURTW architecture as the funds generated by the motor park managers would be remitted directly into the state account.

Professor Afonja also debunked a report that the Ministry of Public Works, Infrastructures and Transportation has issued an appointment letter to the chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Oyo State chapter, Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi, popularly known as Auxiliary as coordinator for the newly appointed motor park manager.

The Commissioner, who ordered that all illegal collection of fees at motor parks in the state should be stopped, said the state government would partner with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to restore sanity to its transport sector.
