A commendation service in honour of the pioneer General Manager and Chief Executive Officer, Ogun Osun River Development Authority, Dr Lalekan Are has been held with a call on mortals to live an exemplary life.
This formed the basis of tributes at the commendation service held at the Alabata headquarters of Ogun Osun River Basin Development Authority.
The Minister of Water Resources, Mr Suleiman Adamu in a message said the contributions of Dr Lalekan Are to the development and growth of the water sector would remain indelible.
Represented by the Acting Director, Department of Irrigation and Drainage in the ministry, Mrs. Esther Oyeronke, the minister recalled that late Dr. Are facilitated the establishment of the largest dam in the country, Oyan dam and other projects, a feat which he described as exceptional.
Some of the former managing directors of the authority including Mr. Jide Fatokun and Mr. Jimi Omoleke said late Dr. Lalekan Are provided effective leadership which changed the fortune of Ogun Osun River Basin Development.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ogun Osun River Basin Development Authority, Mr. Olufemi Odumosu said late Dr. Lalekan Are contributed immeasurably to the development of the authority and the nation during his life time.
Mr. Odumosu said the fatherly role he played during his lifetime would be greatly missed.
In a sermon entitled” Faith in Christ Gives Meaning and Purpose in Life’ Venerable Olukunmi Adekunle from All Souls Anglican Church, Ibara, Abeokuta, reminded the faithful on the need to renew their trust in God for great success.
Venerable Adekunle said late Dr Lalekan Are was a devoted Christian, who used his wealth to assist the less privileged and urged the people to emulate his virtues.
One of the children of the deceased, Mrs. Funke-Are Igun appreciated the people for the love showed since the demise of her father.
The service was attended by friends, colleagues, family members as well as a traditional ruler.
Dr Lalekan Are died on 18th January, 2020 at the age of 86.
