Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Ogun State has handed two bank cheques and an insurance certificate to the family of the police officer killed during the general election in the state.

The Ogun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Abdulganiy Raji while handing over the cheque to the wife of the deceased officer, said the compensation was in fulfilment of the insurance policy of the electoral body for ad-hoc staff and other security personnel attached during the election.

The REC promised that the electoral body would ensure that all other entitlements of the slain officer would be processed and ensure its payment by his primary employer the Police Force.   

Prof. Raji, who described the late corporal as a patriotic police officer, maintained that the compensation would assist to cushion the effect of the loss to the deceased’s family.  

Mrs Blessing,  the wife of the slain Police officer, Corporal Sunday Idoko, who was shot dead by gunmen while escorting election result from Ipokia town to Ilaro collation centre during the general election, thanked the commission and others that have been assisting the family since the demise of their breadwinner.

Representatives of the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Security and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in their remarks, called on other agencies of government where security men are posted to emulate the commission.

The late Police Corporal, Sunday Idoko was reportedly shot by some suspected hoodlums at Eredo area in Yewa South Local Government during the 2019 presidential elections in Ogun State. 

The deceased’s wife was accompanied by family members including her four-year-old son.
