A Security Expert has called for a policy that will force petrol and gas trucks owners to install anti-explosive device control in their vehicles to ensure the safety of lives and property.

A security expert, Ambassador Amos Olaniyan while reacting to the Sunday’s explosion in Lagos, where not less than fifteen lives were lost, said stakeholders must prioritize measure to prevent an explosion.

Ambassador Olaniyan noted that there were many devices that could prevent explosion even if the fire accident occurs, adding that such prevention would also protect the Nation’s economy as the gas explosion could negatively affect the economy if not properly managed.

He described the Lagos explosion as a national disaster, saying the accident could have been prevented if the necessary measure had been taken.

Ambassador Olaniyan therefore, urged the authority of The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, to partner private sector or individual, who could help to protect pipelines and other related property of the corporation.

He called on stakeholders in Nigeria’s oil sector to take precautionary measures against petrol and gas explosion in the country to prevent recurrence of the gas or tanker explosion in Nigeria.

“Aside the general protection, every citizen who is using anything at home that could be exploded, must also take precautionary measure, starting from gas cylinder,  generator tank,  even ca. People must be very careful to ensure that even if a fire incident occurred, installation of anti-explosive device will prevent the device from being exploded.”
