Oyo State has recorded the first case of coronavirus also known as COVID-19.

This is contained in a twitter page of Governor Seyi Makinde.

He explained that the confirmation test for the suspected case at Bodija in Ibadan had come back positive.

According to the governor the result was released yesterday’s evening while the State Public Health officials were collaborating with the University College Hospital’s team on the case.

He noted that a follow up on the Ekiti COVID 19 case revealed that the US citizen who is now late was picked up from Lagos Airport to a private apartment in Ona-Ara Local Government Area.

Governor Maknde explained that health authorities had contacted the family concerned and the community had been alerted for intensified contact tracing as well as self-isolation of identified close contacts. 

He added that another returnee from Texas, USA, had also been identified at Oluyole Local Government Area and she had been kept in self-isolation with close monitoring by the State Epidemiological Team.
