Ogun State secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Iwe Iroyin Press Centre had been closed as part of the measures to safeguard the health the journalists and other users of the facility

A statement by the Secretary of the caretaker committee of Ogun NUJ, Comrade Wale Oluokun hinted that the global spread of the Coronavirus and the recent ban of all high-density gatherings in the state made the closure very necessary.

He noted that the NUJ National Headquarters had also directed all the state councils to suspend activities that could bring people together in line with social distancing precautions for the COVID 19.

The Caretaker Committee of the NUJ in Ogun State also explained that the closure came after wide consultation and the reviewed of activities at the centre and called on operators of businesses within the premises to comply with the lockdown order in the interest of public health.

The council also advised the twelve chapels to close their offices for public transactions and urged journalists in the state to adhere strictly with preventive measures and follow experts’ advice on COVID 19 prevention.
