Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo State branch has donated one million naira to the Oyo State COVID-19 Endowment fund. 

At the presentation of the cheque to the officials of the state Ministry of Finance in Ibadan, the state secretary of the union, Mr. Olusegun Abatan, explained that the union decided to donate the one million naira to the Oyo State Covid-19 Endowment Fund, due to the committed efforts of the state government to contain the spread of the virus.

The NUP Scribe stressed the need for other well-meaning Nigerians and corporate organisations to see the move to contain Covid-19 as a collective responsibility and therefore donate towards the fight against the virus. 

He equally commended Govenor Seyi Makinde for the prompt payments of salaries and pensions, despite the dwindling revenue of the state, as a result of the pandemic.

Responding on behalf of the state Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akinola Ojo, the Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Adenike Fashina, appreciated the pensioners for contributing to the fight against Covid-19.

Mrs Fashina enjoined residents of the state to continue to abide by all stay safe regulations and not stigmatize people who have recovered from Covid-19. 

The state chairman of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Alhaji Isiaka Abolade, later presented the cheque of one million naira to the Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Adenike Fashina.
