Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Oyo state command has commenced sensitization campaign on disaster management.

The campaign was led by the NSCDC Commandant in Oyo state, Mr Iskilu Akinsanya to various markets in Ibadan which included Bodija, Agbeni, Ogunpa, Idi-ikan, Molete, Oja’ba, Bere and Yemetu areas.

The campaign which focused on, COVID-19, road accident, fire outbreaks, building collapse and flooding was themed “lockdown disaster“.

While declaring the campaign open, Commandant Iskilu said the programme became imperative to sensitize the public on managing disaster, especially flood as the rainy season intensifies.

Mr Iskilu said dumping refuse in the water ways and gutters always results to flooding which always bring about destruction of property as well as death.

Corroborating, Zonal Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mr Slaku Bigini noted that the agency had partnered  different stakeholders to sensitize and warn people who are fond of disposing their refuse in rivers, gutters and water ways.

Some traders in the markets who benefited from the campaign said they appreciated NEMA and NSCDC’s efforts and promised to spread the message and also abide by the rules to collectively prevent flooding and other natural disasters.

The respondents therefore called on others to desist from any act that could jeopardize lives and properties of the citizenry.
