The thirty-six Governors under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum have resolved to strengthen the risk communication pillar of the State COVID-19 Task Force Teams as proposed by the National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force.

This would in turn foster a stronger collaboration with the National Orientation Agency, religious and traditional institutions to curb the spread of Covid-19 at community levels.

They made the resolution after the 13th virtual teleconference meeting of the forum.

Governors agreed that state government, through their Ministries of Finance should utilize the technical assistance that is available within the NGF Secretariat to publish their approved amended 2020 COVID-19-responsive budgets by 31st of July this month.

The governor also decided to maintain the implementation of a tax compliance relief programme for individual taxpayers and business organizations to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 crisis.

The Governors are also expected to issue emergency procurement guidelines and adopt procedures that will facilitate the participation of small and medium scale enterprises in State Procurement Act, on or before 30th of September this year.

The statement added that in the light of the proposed partnership with the Central Bank of Nigeria on the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme, an official Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, that was signed last month, will be followed by the establishment of a joint project team, that will engage with various stakeholders to launch the 2020 dry season farming to boost food production in the country.
