Oyo State Government has trained fifty selected youths on non-oil export business in line with the directive of Nigerian Export Promotion Council for economic diversification.

The training which is the first phase for all 11 local governments in Ibadan was held at the Western Hall, Agodi Secretariat.

Speaking at the training, Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Oyo State, Mr Seun Fakorede while emphasizing that Nigeria is blessed with both human and material resources tasked youths to tap the resources for the positive economic growth of the state and Nigeria at large.

Mr Fakorede said the present government in the state was ready to partner with well-meaning individuals and corporate organizations on youth empowerment.

A trade promotion advisor, Mrs Bola Emmanuel reiterated the need for youths to go into export business instead of looking for white collar job.

Mrs Emmanuel while noting that the state has potential in products such as gari, cashew and shea butter, stressed the need for youths willing to go into exporting business to be committed in terms of meeting acceptable quality in international communities.

Some of the participants described the training as an eye opener on export businesses and promised to utilize the opportunity.

It would be recalled that early this year, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council held a stakeholders meeting in Abuja where states were encouraged to key into the new idea of introducing the Youth to Non-Oil Export Business to make them self-reliant.
